1. Powerful Motor
A motor, in my opinion, is the most important component of an e-bike if you want to conquer those hills on it. Generally, there are two types of motors on the market: mid-drive and hub motors.
One of the most common bike motors is a hub motor typically installed in the center of an e-bike wheel. And the mid-drive motor is located in the center of the bike, transferring power to the wheel via the drive chain.
You must be curious about the differences between these two types of motors. A hub motor’s most significant advantage is that it rarely requires maintenance.
Furthermore, a hub motor will not strain your bike chain or cause any part of an e-bike to wear out or break down. In this case, your bike chain will not wear out quickly because the hub motor keeps it idle by doing all the work.

What about a motor with a mid-drive? A significant advantage of a mid-drive engine is that it allows an e-bike to easily change tires because there is no heavy motor in the bike’s center.
One disadvantage of a mid-drive motor is that it can cause your drive system to wear out faster than a hub motor. Another more important one is that you cannot shift when one’s bikes come to a stop. You might not understand what it means. For example, if you are in the highest gear and riding very fast, but you have to come to a complete stop due to a red light, a pedestrian, or something else, you may forget to downshift. It will take a lot of effort for you to start pedaling again.

Lithium-ion batteries are now the standard batteries for most electric mountain bikes on the market.
